Dr. Maral Ouzounian is Head of the Division of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, University Health Network, and Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Toronto. She holds the Munk Chair in Advanced Cardiac Therapeutics and the Antonio & Helga DeGasperis Chair in Clinical Trials and Outcomes Research. Internationally recognized for her expertise in aortic and valvular surgery, including the Ross procedure and complex aortic aneurysms, she leads the Thoracic Aortic and Transcatheter Valve Programs at Toronto General Hospital.
Dr. Ouzounian’s research focuses on improving outcomes in aortic and valvular disease, reflected in more than 250 publications and international guidelines. She serves as President of the Canadian Society of Cardiac Surgeons, Secretary-Elect of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, and Senior Editor of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, contributing widely to global surgical education and collaboration.
