One Division. Four Dimensions.
Our work connects complex clinical care, education, research and innovation — creating an environment where patients benefit from discovery and the next generation of surgeons learns from experience.
Clinical Expertise
Complex care. Exceptional expertise.
Our surgeons care for patients across the spectrum of adult cardiovascular surgery, including coronary, valve, aortic, transplant, mechanical circulatory support, minimally invasive and robotic surgery.
Education
Learn. Train. Discover. Lead.
Students, residents, fellows, research trainees and visiting clinicians learn alongside experienced surgeons, developing clinical skills, research experience and expertise in cardiovascular surgery.
Research
Discovery that moves surgery forward.
Research is embedded in our clinical and educational environment. Our faculty lead work in areas including aortic disease, valve repair and reconstruction, transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, surgical outcomes and minimally invasive surgery.
Innovation
From new ideas to new possibilities.
Cardiovascular surgery continues to evolve. Our Division has a long history of advancing surgical techniques and technologies and continues to explore new approaches to improve outcomes and expand what is possible for patients with complex cardiovascular disease.
The Division in Action
At the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, education is integrated into the everyday life of the Division.
Learners are exposed to complex cases, multidisciplinary decision-making, surgical techniques, research, conferences, rounds and mentorship — with opportunities to learn both inside and beyond the operating room. From medical students beginning to explore cardiovascular surgery to fellows developing advanced expertise, our educational environment is designed to support learning at every stage.
At the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre
Based at Toronto General Hospital and affiliated with the University of Toronto, the Division is part of a broader academic ecosystem connecting clinical care, research and education. This environment gives trainees access to experienced faculty, complex cases, multidisciplinary collaboration and opportunities to participate in research and innovation.
